Cleanings and Complete Checkups
An important step that our practice adopts as a part of the in-office oral care routine for all our patients is dental cleanings and checkups. It is recommended that a comprehensive oral care exam and a professional dental cleaning should be conducted at least once in every six months.
A dental exam allows us to take a closer look at your oral health and find any problems or issues that may be keeping your smile from staying healthy and beautiful. Even a single bad tooth could cause major problems to your oral and physical health, if it is left untreated. During your exam, we will check the alignment of your teeth, your bite, examine your lips and lymph nodes, and will also take digital x-rays of your teeth to check for any problems that may be hidden from plain sight.
We use digital X-Rays instead of traditional X-Rays as they use up to 80% lesser radiation, thereby allowing us to protect our patients’ health. Digital X-Rays are also environment-friendly as the images can be created without using any harsh chemicals. They give instant results as the images can be viewed on a digital screen and there is no need to wait for the film to develop.
An important part of a dental examination is the detection of cavities. We use the advanced DIAGNOdent cavity detection device which makes use of laser to detect changes in the tooth surface caused by cavities. This is helpful in detecting hidden or early signs of decay that may not be visible to the naked eye.
We also perform professional teeth cleanings as part of your regular dental examination. This involves the removal of plaque, tartar and bacterial deposits from the surface of the teeth. After cleaning, the teeth are polished to smoothen their surface so that plaque cannot stick to the teeth. We also offer deep cleaning for teeth that have tough stains or a high amount of tartar deposits. A professional cleaning leaves your mouth fresh and squeaky clean and is a preventive measure to combat several dental problems.
Another important part of our complete dental checkups is an oral cancer screening. This simple screening process involves a careful examination of your lips, teeth, gums, throat and insides of the cheek to check for any lesions or bumps. If something unusual is found, we conduct a biopsy. If the results of the biopsy are positive or atypical, treatment is started immediately.
